Yacht Club

Meetings of the Yacht Club are held the fourth Thursday of the month in the Pool View Room at the Lodge. Boat ownership is not a criterion for membership. Members enjoy fun events throughout the year, including the moonlight cruise, progressive dinner, Oktoberfest, Lake cleanup and more. For more information, contact Mary Jane Kelly at 244-1768.

Women's Connection

The Christian Women's Connection will hold its monthly luncheon meeting on Wednesday, February 8, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Lodge. With the theme,  "Angel in My Pocket," the program will consist of Kathy Dane sharing her collection of angels, along with a story and musical presentation. Executive Assistant at Cal State San Marcos Joyce Bruggeman will challenge attendees to "Dare to Dream."

The luncheon is $14, all-inclusive luncheon. Reservations can be made by calling Eileen Crowder at 674-7221 or Gerry Moncur at 678-1407 by Feb. 2. The non-membership group encourages women of all ages to attend. Attendees are reminded to bring non-perishable items for local food pantries and/or gently used household items for the Military Relief Society at Camp Pendleton.

Tennis Club

The next tournament is the Valentine's Doubles Mixer on Saturday, February 18, at 8 a.m. Members are requested to wear red and to sign up with a partner. Those who sign up solo will be assigned a partner. The fee to participate is $10 per member, and the deadline is Wednesday, February 15, by contacting Ed and Peggy Basubas at 719-7949.

The club is finalizing its membership renewals for 2012. Members who still need to renew their membership should contact Val Gambina at 385-8186. The cost is $25 for individuals and $35 for families.

The Tennis Club invites residents to come out for Social Play on Mondays and Fridays at 9 a.m. It is open to all levels of players and is a way to meet other players without committing to a schedule. For more information, contact Dave Harrigan at 746-3460 or davenjean1958@yahoo.com.

CLAMS

It's renewal time and a good time to join for those interested. The year is filled with events, including the April golf tournament, June picnic, July cocktail party, Laughlin bus trip and the steak dinner in November. Membership is $25 per year. For more information, call Bud Hanner at 244-6315.

Travel Club

A one-day Covered Wagon Tour and Cookout in the Coachella Valley is scheduled for February 16. “Out of Africa” is the theme for the March 2 dinner-dance. Spend April 12 at Santa Anita Park. Sign up for a 4-day 3-night Deluxe Motor Coach trip to Yosemite from June 26 to 29. Costa Rica is the destination for travelers September 8 to 15.

Choraleers

The Choraleers have begun rehearsing for their Spring Concert. Those interested in singing with the Choraleers should contact Patti Miles at 244-7193.

Cotillion

Cotillion signups for 2012 will continue at upcoming meetings. February 3 will be the annual Valentine’s party. Young ladies are asked to bring homemade goodies to share. Gentlemen are urged to show appreciation by bringing a small bouquet. Canyon Lake Florist in the Towne Center will make something special for a nominal cost.

The dress code for young ladies is a nice dress and comfortable shoes. Flats are preferred, but one-inch heels can be worn. Gentlemen are required to wear a suit or dress slacks, long-sleeved shirt, long tie worn under a jacket, vest or sweater vest, and dress shoes. Athletic shoes and school clothes are not permitted.

The March 9 meeting is the start of etiquette curriculum. The Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha-Cha and East Coast Swing dance steps will be taught.

Woman’s Club

The next meeting will be on February 15, at 10 a.m. at the Lodge. The program will be a presentation by physical therapist Ron Toth. The cost for lunch is $14, to be paid by check only. The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club is a non-profit, non-partisan philanthropic service organization dedicated to the enrichment of Canyon Lake and helping others less fortunate. Community Theatre

Fitness and Triathlon Club 

President Stephen Bustos appreciated meeting participants on the podium at the 2nd annual Fit Community event last weekend, saying, "All of your continuous training and hard work sure paid off." He also offers a thank-you to club members who took one for the team and decided to help out instead of participate.  

The club provided volunteers in the event staff, aid stations, bike pacers, balloon arch, timing area and on course signage. The club's PR director manned the Triathlon Club booth in the health expo. The next meeting will be on February 6, and the Long Duathlon on February 18.

Twirlers Square Dance Club

The Twirlers are sponsoring a new Beginning Square Dance Class, which began January 18. The first day of class is free to all who are interested. It is open to singles, couples and families. Children must be at least 10 years of age and accompanied by an adult at all times.

"This is a great way to exercise, socialize and make new friends," says spokesperson Melinda Townsend. "No dancing experience needed."

The Twirlers Square Dance Club beginning square dance class is held every Wednesday, 7 to 8:15 p.m. in the Holiday Bay Room at the Lodge. Regular club dances are held on the second Sunday of each month in the Holiday Bay Room.

Beginner line dance classes are held every Tuesday, 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Lodge. All ages are welcome. A beginning to intermediate line dance class is offered Wednesdays, 3 to 5 p.m., in the Holiday Bay Room. Each class is $4. For more information, call 244-0672 or visit canyonlaketwirlers.org.

Kids Club

Canyon Lake Kids Club meets at Blue Bird Hall each Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. According to spokesperson Nickey Frakes, the theme for the month of January is "food." Parent volunteers will be introducing the food groups through crafts and snacks. They also are planning a field trip. The Kids Club is a program in which young children and their parents or grandparents can enjoy a morning of crafts, music, exercise, games, sports and a snack for just $2 per session.

Car Club

The Car Club holds meetings the first Thursday of each month at the Lodge. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the general meeting at 6:30. Learn about upcoming events, listen to guest speakers and share automotive experiences. Finger foods will be served and a 50/50 drawing will round out the evening. Pinochle Club

Roadrunners

Roadrunners RV Club meetings are held at the Lodge on the second Tuesday of each month, from 5 to 7 p.m. Social hour begins at 5; catered dinner and meeting begin at 6. Residents who enjoy the RV life are encouraged to join as members. For more information, call John Sullivan at 244-4626.

Art Association

The Art Association meets the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the City Multi-purpose Room. All are welcome to join the Monday night ad hoc painters, who meet at Blue Bird Hall from 6:30 to 9 p.m. For more information, contact Christy Bruce at 244-2727.

Jr. Women’s Club

The Canyon Lake Jr. Women’s Club is looking for new members. The JWC meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the City Multi-purpose Room. For membership information, contact Julie Stover at juliestoverjwc@aol.com or visit canyonlakejwc.org.

Chair Volleyball

Members of the Chair Volleyball Club play on Tuesday and Friday mornings at 9:45 a.m. in the Holiday Bay Room. The game is played using a beach ball and a slightly lowered net while players are seated.

Occasionally, the meeting time changes if an event is scheduled in the Holiday Bay Room, so visitors should check with Karen Bevans at 246-1444 or karenbevans@hotmail.com before heading over there. Membership dues are $10 per year.

Bosom Buddies

The Bosom Buddies mission is to educate, inspire and support newly diagnosed breast cancer patients during their breast cancer journey. Motorcycle Club

The Motorcycle Club is the 2011 Chamber of Commerce Organization of the Year and holds monthly meetings on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. with dinner and fellowship at the North Shore Condos Clubhouse, 22570 Bass Pl.
