Watch ShowCal skiers in action this Sunday

Canyon Lake is privileged to be the home base for California’s first and only amateur water ski show team, ShowCal Skiers, led by Canyon Lake residents Ted and Cherie Schiafone. Not only do residents get to see this group in action, they’re invited to be a part of the team!

ShowCal Skiers will have their first on-water practice of the season this Sunday, March 22, from 3 to 6 p.m., on the Main Lake in front of Happy Camp. Spectators are invited to watch.

Ted says, “Being a part of ShowCal Skiers is a great activity the whole family may enjoy together. All ages are welcome to join in the fun.” Even if someone isn’t a water skier, the club has space for them, since support members also are needed.

The formation of ShowCal Skiers was spearheaded by members representing such professional and amateur teams as Sea World, Cypress Gardens, Six Flags, Tommy Bartlett’s, the Water Bugs, Webfooters and Badgerland.

Canyon Lake, already considered a classic water skiing community, is home to numerous national and world champion skiers, boarders and hydrofoilers.

The ShowCal Skiers performed in several Canyon Lake shows throughout the 2014 season and have even bigger plans for 2015. The club is actively involved in the community, participating and providing support for the Fiesta Day bicycle decorating contest, Polar Bear Day, Ski Club “work days” and more.

The ShowCal Skiers have been given permission to practice in front of Happy Camp and at the Jump Lagoon, and will be participating in ski shows at Fiesta Day and on select Taco Tuesdays.

Ted says, “Take advantage of Canyon Lake’s greatest amenity, water skiing. No need to purchase an expensive ski boat or specialized water sports equipment. You’ll now have the opportunity to water ski, wakeboard, jump, climb to the top of the pyramid or ski on your bare feet. Acting, dance and cheer will be incorporated into the shows . . . It’s your time to shine!”
